Global warming

is measurable increases in the average temperature of the earth's atmosphere, oceans and landmasses. Earth is currently facing a period of rapid warming brought on by rising levels of heat-trapping gases, known as greenhouse gases, in the atmosphere.

Climate change

is a significant and lasting change in the statistical distribution of weather patterns over periods ranging from decades to millions of years. It may be a change in average weather conditions, or in the distribution of weather around the average conditions. It is a change in the statistical properties of the climate system when considered over long periods of time, regardless of cause.
